Seasonal Affective Disorder or SAD is a type of depression that affects people each year during the fall and winter seasons. This depression can be mild, which can be overcome by simple self-motivational tasks such as exercise or music therapy. In some cases, it can be severe, where it requires anti-depression medications.

To counteract the lack of sun exposure during the winter season, light boxes mimic the bright light that comes from the sun. Once the body absorbs enough light, it causes a chemical change in the brain. In turn, this change uplifts one’s mood and decreases the other symptoms of depression.
